The Real National Championship Story? The Refs Sucked

Let me preface this with the fact that I am not one to usually state how bad refs were in a particular game. That was before last nights abysmal National Championship performance.

I don't want to take away anything from UNC winning, congratulations to them in what was a down to the wire game. I mean up until about 30 seconds left, it was a toss up. We actually got to see what this game could have been the whole time, instead of just the final 5 minutes.

Even with the final few minutes of great game and play none of us can deny just how much of a factor the refs played. Every big man on Gonzaga had 4 fouls before they're were even 8 minutes left in the 2nd half. That is not something that should happen, especially in as big a game as this. Refs need to expect a slightly more physical game and give the players a bit of breathing room. Instead these refs had us looking at them, like:

It was bad, guys were getting flagrant calls on nothing plays, and others were making clean blocks and steals that turned into whistles. You know it's bad when Jim Nantz is constantly mentioning it. I mean he made it pretty clear that a ref was not going to be the one who get's his tie when the buzzer sounds. Twitter of course took notice as well....

In the future and as it should always actually be in big games, the refs need to swallow their whistles. Let the players play and the fans enjoy the game. This game had zero flow, especially in the 2nd half, which didn't allow fans to get into long stretches of action or the players get into any sort of rhythm. Honestly the shooting may have been some of the worst I've ever seen in such a big game:

That was ALL field goals, not just 3 point attempts. That's atrocious and I put a lot of the blame on the refs. Seriously guys. The game wasn't about you, it was about the players and you made everyone forget about that.

P.S. You know the refs were bad, when ref lover LeBron is saying it as well.
