MLB Opening Day Should Be a Holiday

Opening Day is here! Yes, I know there were 3 games yesterday, but we have a full plate of baseball today and I am excited. Baseball is my #1 sport. Shocking I know. Even if it wasn't, theres nothing like Opening Day in baseball. Tons of ceremonies happen at every ballpark, not just on one day, but over an entire week. It's great and makes me feel like a kid all over again.

That is why it should be a holiday in America. It's our national pastime and should be a day that has familys and friends gathering together at the stadium or house to bbq, crack open a cold one, and take in a baseball game. I'm not the only one who thinks this by the way. All the way back in 2014 Budweiser had a campaign to make Opening Day a national holiday and it got over the 100,000 required signatures to be viewed by the white house. The great Ozzie Smith was apart of the campaign and made a compelling point in saying:

"There's no denying the passion that baseball fans have for America's national pastime," said Smith, the Hall of Fame shortstop from the Cardinals and the campaign's spokesperson. "The more than 100,000 people who signed the petition are just a fraction of the 1.3 million who will attend Opening Day games this year. The day is already an unofficial holiday, but now it's time to make it official."

We are a passionate people! Baseball is great and no one will ever make me think differently. Besides we could package this up nicely with the Monday after the Super Bowl, because if you get the MLB and NFL to combine powers that's a money machine that won't be stopped easily. We've seen the power of Goodell and Manford is a quite guy who can do all the behind the work shady stuff to get the deal done.

Make Opening Day a National Holiday and let this be the start of it all!
