A Mets v. Astros World Series?

I am a Red Sox fan, there I said it so this season hasn't been the best for me to watch as a fan. The only highlights are Ortiz chasing 500 career home runs and seeing all the young talent start to develop such as Bogaerts, Betts, and Bradley Jr. Having the team I root going through it's second down year in a row after winning the world series has made me pay attention to the teams that are playing above pre-season expectations such as the Houston Astros and New York Mets.

These two teams have really come out of nowhere to have phenomenal seasons and it has been a lot of fun to watch. Especially a team like Houston, which only a year or two ago admitted they were in re-building mode and traded away a lot of veteran talent to help get younger prospects in return. Guys like Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa are the future of this team but are helping them succeed right now, way sooner than league experts and ownership themselves thought. They could make a deep run especially with the talented arm of Dallas Keuchel as their Ace.  Of course, if they make a deep run into the playoffs and have a dream ride like the K.C. Royals did last year they could end up facing the other surprise team in the N.L., the NY Mets.

The Mets started the year of hot and cooled down for a month or two, but after making some trades at the deadline acquiring guys like Yoenis Cespedes they have picked it up again. What helped keep them afloat during the times of struggle? Pitching, and the Mets have it in aces, literally with Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard, and even big boy Bartolo Colon who isn't just fun to watch pitch, but also hit. This team can go to the World Series just by winning games 1-0 all the way. That's how dominant the starters can be any given day. The moves they made at the deadline though should make it so the pitchers even on an off day can still give up a run or two and still come out with the W.

I never thought I would see the day when the last place Astros and middling Mets would be the talk of the MLB and potential World Series Champions. Here we are though at the beginning of September and both teams are atop their respective divisions Houston with a 3 game lead and the Mets with a 6.5 game lead. Good luck to both these teams and it should be fun to watch the final stretch of the season where one team always seems to make a run up the board.
